Formed out of the ashes of Breather Resist, Louisville, KYs Young Widows are a force to be reckoned with. This is demonstrated on Old Wounds, their forthcoming sophomore effort and first release for Temporary Residence Ltd. However, in a recent interview with Exclaim!, vocalist and guitarist Evan Patterson suggested there will be many releases to come with the experimental label, beginning with a set of split seven-inches due early 2009. Perhaps what I love most about hip-hop is its impulsive nature, especially a personality like Kanye West, who just gathers his chums and drops a hot track whenever he chooses. So, what do you get when you take T.I., Jay-Z, Kanye and Lil Wayne and throw them on top of a West-produced joint that samples M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes"? Why it's the "RAP OLYMPIC TEAM!"...

Taken from her new album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, "This Bird" shockingly samples Scottish duo Boards of Canada's "Slow This Bird Down" (from 2005's The Campfire Headphase). Notoriously shy from both the public and the press, Boards of Canada (aka Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin) are one of the last acts you'd expect to allow a mainstream artist to borrow a sample, however, here it is - on the new album by Beyoncι's younger sibling, Solange....

Like Radiohead's In Rainbows and Girl Talk's Feed the Animals, I felt it necessary to weigh in on Bloc Party's new one, Intimacy, as soon it was put online by the band. Hugh Dillon
Six years ago, Hugh Dillon, then making a living full-time as the frontman for Can-rock mainstays the Headstones, answered What does your mom wish you were doing instead? with More films. Mama Dillon must be pretty pleased with the career trajectory of her son; despite a few critically acclaimed roles in films like Hard Core Logo and Dance Me Outside in the 1990s, Dillon's interest in acting remained secondary to his music and his well-documented battle with addiction. Since the Headstones called it a day in 2003, though, Dillon has made...
